Weight regain after bariatric surgery is well known. People can lose weight after gastric band, gastrectomy, gastric bypass surgery. This can be very disheartening for patients who have had bariatric surgery.

One of the main reasons for weight regain is not addressing the underlying problems for weight gain.

Another important reason is weight regain is usually seen in people who do not have appropriate follow ups with their bariatric team.

Weight regain can also be due to complications of bariatric surgery.

Some people with gastric bypass experience post prandial hypoglycaemia which can lead to weight regain.

Rate of weight regain could range from about 6% at 2 years to 75% at 6 years.
